Executive Pastor of Operations

Overview

Epic Church is seeking a proven builder and scaler to serve as Executive Pastor in downtown San Francisco. We are a rapidly growing church community averaging 1,000 in Sunday attendance with an ambitious vision for greater kingdom impact in our city and the world. The Executive Pastor serves as a strategic partner to the Lead Pastor by giving directional, organizational and administrative leadership to Epic Church. The role requires a strategic thinker who can lead through influence and oversee critical functions through a talented team. The ideal candidate will have a pastor’s heart, a business leader’s mind, and the ability to seamlessly blend ministry passion with operational excellence. This person is a self-starter who sees problems as opportunities to advance and brings solutions to the table for those opportunities.

Responsibilities 
  • Strategic Partnership & Vision Implementation:
    • Serve as strategic partner to the Lead Pastor in vision development and execution
    • Collaborate in setting organizational direction, priorities, and long-term strategic planning
    • Translate church vision into operational strategies and actionable plans
    • Partner in major decision-making that impacts church direction and growth
    • Represent the Lead Pastor and church leadership in key external relationships
  • Financial Stewardship & Generosity Leadership:
    • Provide executive oversight of church finances, working through Operations Director and finance team
    • Champion stewardship and generosity initiatives that support church vision and growth
    • Partner with Lead Pastor in major financial decisions and capital investments
    • Oversee budget development process ensuring alignment with strategic priorities
    • Lead generosity campaigns, capital initiatives, and donor development strategies
    • Ensure financial integrity and accountability across all church operations
  • Facilities & Infrastructure Vision:
    • Provide strategic oversight of facilities management through Operations Director and facilities team
    • Champion facility development that supports church growth and community impact
    • Oversee major facility projects, expansions, and capital improvements
    • Ensure facilities strategy aligns with overall church vision and growth plans
    • Lead space optimization and utilization planning for maximum ministry effectiveness
Qualifications  
  • Essential Qualifications:
    • Spiritual Foundation- Committed follower of Jesus Christ with a mature faith and desire to see others grow spiritually
    • Leadership Experience- At least 5 years of executive leadership that involved significant growth and scaling
    • Ministry Heart- Passion for the local church and connecting people to Jesus, community, and their mission
  • Professional Competencies:
    • Experience providing executive oversight of budgets exceeding $3 million annually
    • Demonstrated success in leading through others and building strong operational teams
    • Strategic thinking abilities with proven track record of vision-to-execution
    • Experience in organizational development, change management, and growth leadership
    • Strong business acumen with understanding of financial management and operational efficiency
    • Exceptional communication skills with ability to cast vision and inspire action
    • Proven ability to build trust and collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders
    • Experience in donor relations, fundraising, or generosity development preferred
    • Comfortable representing the organization in external partnerships and community relationships

Groups Director

Overview

Epic Church is seeking a passionate, strategic, and relational leader to guide our growing congregation into deeper connection. The Groups Director will design, oversee, and scale a thriving small groups system that supports our rapidly growing church community. Our church averages 1,000 in Sunday attendance with an ambitious vision for greater kingdom impact in our city and the world. This role provides high-level ministry leadership, cultivating a culture where people consistently take next steps in faith, form meaningful relationships, and grow as disciples of Jesus. The ideal candidate excels at building teams, developing leaders, and shepherding people from diverse backgrounds. They bring strong organizational and relational skills, a heart for pastoral care, and proven experience leading volunteer leaders with excellence.

Responsibilities 
  • Strategic Leadership:
    • Lead the congregation in building community and faith through a robust small groups system.
    • Oversee the groups ministry for a growing church reaching 1000+ people weekly.
    • Assist church members in finding suitable small groups, courses, and events that align with their interests and needs.
    • Provide strategic leadership to increase engagement - sign-ups and consistency in attendance.
    • Be a culture carrier for the importance of living and engaging in biblical community.
    • Other ministry support and leadership responsibilities crafted around Epic's needs and your gifting.
  • Team Development:
    • Recruit, develop, and train leaders to facilitate weekly small groups, courses, and one-time events.
    • Develop and shepherd a leadership team that gives oversight to Group Leaders.
    • Identify and invest in emerging leaders with high capacity and spiritual maturity.
    • Provide pastoral care and leadership direction to your team.
Qualifications  
  • Experience leading volunteer teams of high-capacity leaders.
  • Proven ability to recruit and develop potential leaders.
  • Comfortable calling people to take next steps in leadership and spiritual engagement.
  • Experience shepherding a wide demographic of people in spiritual conversations from a strong biblical
    foundation.
  • Experience scaling ministry and systems: increasing groups while providing excellent support to group leaders.
  • Relational and teachable spirit-actively pursuing feedback and coaching.
  • BA or BS preferred.
