Congratulations - you made it out of 2020! That, in itself, is a major accomplishment for all of us. Unfortunately, starting a new year doesn’t guarantee a change in our trajectory. So, how can you begin this year in a way that sets you on the right path?
2 Corinthians 5:17 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!
God is all about bringing the new into our lives, but we have a part to play as well. If you want to set a new trajectory for your future, change is in order. Here are three kinds of changes you might need to make as we begin 2021.
Change your priorities. It is so easy to get our priorities out of order. What are you giving the best part of your day to? If I looked at how you spend your time, it would tell me a lot about what matters most to you. What should you give more time to? What should you give less time to? What should you give no time to? What would it look like in your life for God to become your top priority?
Change your inputs. There are things you do that give life to you and other things that drain life from you. There are people in your life who help you live the life God has called you to live. There are other people who keep you from living the life God intends for you to live. It’s possible you’re spending too much time reading the news, scrolling social media, or a thousand other things that are good to do occasionally - but too much of these things will have a negative effect on your life.
Luke 6:45 A good man brings good things out of the good stored up in his heart, and an evil man brings evil things out of the evil stored up in his heart. For the mouth speaks what the heart is full of.
Change your environment. Oftentimes, it’s our environment that holds us back. Take a look at your surroundings. Is there any environment you’ve put yourself in that is keeping you from being your best self? You might need to work in a different room or clear the clutter or change the kind of music you tend to listen to. When I begin my day, my environment makes all the difference. Here’s what my environment consists of during my early morning time: good coffee, Scripture, journal, a candle, and usually our dog in my lap. What do you think will work best for your environment?
We’re all on a trajectory for 2021. If you don’t like where you’re headed, implement these changes and ask God for a new course.
I believe we’re in store for big things this year as a church. This Sunday, we begin a 21-day prayer and fasting journey. Will you join the rest of us in this pursuit of God’s presence in our lives?
Much Love,
Ben
